The Rh 503 is the first externally powered machine cannon developed in Europe. Its reliability in operation is completely independent of gas pressure level.
The various types of cartridges - the standard 35 mm cartridge and the 50 mm "Supershot" - can be fired without any internal modification of the gun.
Initially, the Rh 503 fires performance improved ammunition of the standardised calibre 35 mm x 228. By merely changing the barrel, the Rh 503 system is capable of improving its performance up to 50 percent by firing a more powerful ammunition in a new 50 mm x 330 calibre, called the "Supershot". |
