telemax: Strong demand in the Middle East

Barely one year ago telerob Gesellschaft für Fernhantierungstechnik mbH of Ostfildern, Germany, unveiled a new generation of EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) robots. Now the 2006 generation is on the market: smaller, lighter and even better.

The telemax combines the performance capabilities of a large robot with the mobility of a small system. Small enough to operate in an underground railway carriage or aircraft, it is large enough to deal directly with suspicious items in the overhead storage compartments of all current aircraft types. A total of ten telemax systems have already been sold, three to Bulgaria and seven in the Arabian Peninsula.

The product of innovative engineering and decades of experience in disarming improvised explosive devices (IED), telemax represents a quantum leap in remote-control bomb disposal.

The new robot features tool centre point control – a world first and hitherto unrivalled by any EOD robot – making child's play of complicated manipulator movements: long, tedious minutes spent edging toward an IED are suddenly transformed into seconds. The bomb disposal engineer saves precious time for the actual task at hand.

  • The system's unique 4-track running gear with Drive technology provides extraordinary mobility. Capable of climbing a 45° gradient and overcoming obstacles measuring 500 mm in height, it outperforms all other systems.

  • Its extendable upper arm, coupled with an adjustable-height chassis, gives it a remarkable vertical reach of 2,350 mm.

  • The gripper is able to handle objects weighing up to 5 kg, meaning that it can employ ballistic systems and other tools even at a substantial standoff and/or height.
